Visiting The Red Rocks Park – Colorado Day 1

Colorado Day 1Day 1 in Colorado was such a dreamy day. When my friend and I woke up, we looked outside the window to see the ground covered in snow. This is exactly what we wanted to see… snow! We got dressed and headed out of The Dove Inn to explore the city, Golden, with full on excitement. We decided to start the day at a cute coffee shop called Bean Fosters because what’s a better way to enjoy the snow?

This coffee shop was super cute because it had a bookstore inside the cafe. You could just come on in, order a cup of coffee, and grab a book from the bookshelf to start your day. I ended up ordering a cappuccino and oatmeal while my friend ordered a hot chocolate and oatmeal. After we sat there enjoying the coffee, talking, and glancing at the snow outside, we finally decided to hit the road. For day 1 of Colorado, we decided to spend the day at Estes Park.

We got in the car and started hitting the road to Estes Park, and 30 minutes into the drive we actually had to turn around. When we started driving into the mountains, the clouds started lowering to the grounds, making it hard to see. I don’t think I had ever driven in snow, with fog… especially on a mountain. I ended up turning around to play it safe because it was not worth the risk. My friend and I had only planned on going to Estes Park to hike and sight see, so we really didn’t have another plan.

We decided to head to the city and on our way back, we discussed what we wanted to do there. The only thing we wanted to see in Denver was the Dior Exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. Once we got there, we spent a little over an hour at the exhibit. I could go on for ages on how magical the exhibit was. I am a huge Dior fan, especially when it came to his couture pieces. To see the collections in front of me was sort of a “pinch me” moment. I ended up uploading a few of my favorite pieces on my latest Instagram post (there were too many to choose from).

After the museum, we started to get really hungry and were both craving Italian food. For some reason, we were struggling to find a great Italian restaurant. I am not sure if it’s because we hadn’t planned for one ahead of time, but we were struggling. We ended up going to DiFranco’s, which I was actually pretty impressed with. It’s the type of Italian restaurant where you walk out feeling healthy (even though you just stuffed your face with a ton of carbs).

After DiFranco’s, we headed to our car and sat down looking at each other not knowing what to do next. I mean, we really had nothing planned that day. We quickly Googled things to do in Denver and stumbled upon the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. It was around a 20 minute drive, which wasn’t too bad.

The drive to the park was absolutely stunning, especially in the snow. The red rocks and the contrast of the snow made it look like a famous painting you never thought to see. We stayed there for almost an hour until we realized the snow falling started to become ice. Our worried selves immediately got into the car and headed back to the city.

Last but not least, we ended the night with a warm nutella pizza from DC Pie, which I recommend all the way.
