Vail Village – Colorado Day 3 & 4

Zara Puffer Coat, Shein Silver Puffer Jacket, Sorel Snow Boots

Believe it or not, going to Vail was not on our list for this trip. It was completely unplanned. Day 3 of Colorado was supposed to consist of driving to Dillion to visit the Ice Castles. Renee and I both agreed on one thing for this trip before flying out to Colorado, and that was to visit the castles. We started Day 3 by grabbing breakfast at Urban Farmer in downtown before heading to Dillon, which was only an hour and a half drive from Denver.

When we arrived to Dillion, we were really disappointed to find out that the tickets to the Ice Castles were completely sold out. I mean, pretty disappointed since that was all what we were both really wanting to do on this trip. We walked around Dillon to explore the city since we were already there. There wasn’t much to do in Dillion.

As we were walking around, the sun started to set and realized the snow (and melted snow) started hardening. I started to worry on the drive back down the mountains, to the city, in the dark, and in the weather conditions. We made the final decision to stay on the mountains instead of driving back to the city. After googling places to stay at near Dillon along with activities to do, we found that Vail was indeed the closest and best rated.

We didn’t know what to expect in Vail and didn’t even look at where to stay. All what we knew is that it was time to hit the road to avoid driving at night. It was around a 30-45 minute drive, but we finally made it to Vail before it became dark. We drove up to the first resort we stumbled upon and my oh my… the prices were high. We ended up going with the flow and spent the night in Vail since we didn’t have much options.

Vail Village is such an enchanting, magical place to visit. I have to say that going to Vail was the best accident that happened to us. It happened to be our favorite 2 days out of this trip. Whether we were walking at night or in the day light, the village was breathtaking and out of this world, magical. It felt like you were no longer in the US. The village really reminded me of Germany.

We were both on a budget for this trip and decided to not go skiing. However, we did end up taking a lift which was unlimited for only $40. With the lift pass, you were able to go on any lift in any village, so we did try to take advantage of that. If you take the lift up to Eagle’s Nest, you will be 10,350ft above sea level. The views we experienced were astonishing.

I definitely would want to come back to Vail and experience the full winter wonderland experience.
